At approximately 7:33pm on May 20th local time (23:33UTC), an earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter Scale occurred in the local region near Anguilla & St. Maarten at a depth of 15.5 miles (25 km) below sea-level. This Moderate Quake had an epicenter located at 18.7 N, 62.8 W — about 37 miles (60 km) NNE of Stoney Ground, Anguilla/97 miles (158 km) N of Basseterre, St. Kitts/50 miles (81 km) NE of Philipsburg, St. Maarten.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, and no threat of a tsunami. However, many residents of the SSS Islands have reported that they felt the tremor, and some even heard a rumbling before the actual shake.

The northeastern Caribbean was shaken on Monday by its second earthquake since Saturday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). Saturday’s tremor was felt across the local region, from St. Maarten to Guadeloupe (where Monday’s quake was also felt).

    At approximately 7:50 yesterday evening local time (23:50UTC), an earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter Scale occurred near Antigua at a depth of 12.4 miles (20 km) below sea-level. This Moderate Quake had an epicenter located at 17.4 N, 62.0 W — about 18 miles (30 km) SW of Codrington, Barbuda/22 miles (37 km) NNW of St. John’s, Antigua/77 miles (124 km) SE of St. Maarten.

    There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, and no threat of a tsunami. Additionally, many residents of the SSS Islands have reportedly felt the ‘quake.

This Intermediate Quake had an epicenter located at 12.1 N, 73.4 W — about 50 miles (81 km) NW of Riohacha, Colombia/232 miles (375 km) W of Oranjestad, Aruba/750 miles (1207 km) SW of St. Maarten.

    There were no immediate reports of damage or injury, and there was/is no threat of a tsunami.

      * Tropical activity kicked off Wednesday with the formation (and dissipation) of Tropical Storm Alvin in the Pacific Ocean. TS Alvin, however, posed NO threat to the SSS Islands & the rest of the Caribbean. Note: Wednesday (15 May) is the official beginning of the Pacific Hurricane Season.
      * Boaters & beach-goers should also continue to be vigilant and use caution in the surrounding waters & beaches throughout the weekend — as seas are expected to reach above-normal levels.
